Hormones, Muscle and Bone as Longevity Axes

Regeneration by Design

Loss of mobility, not age itself, ends independence. Professor Paul Lee treats hormones, muscle and bone as one system and sets out how joint preservation and regeneration keep the joint loaded, so that muscle and bone are maintained and joint replacement is deferred.

Scientific Focus

Hormones, muscle and bone decide whether mobility is kept, and Regeneration by Design treats them as one system. The joint is treated as one organ of bone, cartilage, synovium and muscle, and care follows four principles. Physics corrects loading and mechanics. Chemistry uses injectable materials and scaffolds inside the joint. Biology addresses cells, hormones, sleep and exercise. Time separates chronological age from physiological function and decides when to intervene.

Muscle and bone maintain each other through loading and hormonal signalling. A painful joint unloads the limb: muscle wastes, bone thins, and falls and fractures follow. Treatment therefore aims to keep the joint loaded. Platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin reduce inflammation and support repair, hyaluronic acid restores lubrication, Arthrosamid gives lasting cushioning and pain relief in knee osteoarthritis, and ChondroFiller supplies a collagen scaffold for cartilage defects.

Why It Matters

Cartilage cannot repair itself; once lost, the joint drifts towards replacement. Non-Arthroscopic Needle-Delivered One-Stage Autologous Chondrogenic Injection (NanoACi) rebuilds the surface with ear-cartilage micrografts, a collagen scaffold and platelet-rich fibrin in one needle-delivered session under local anaesthetic. Repairing cartilage without arthroscopy keeps the joint loaded, avoids months of post-operative unloading and defers replacement. MAI Motion, markerless movement analysis reporting a motion age, and onMRI, quantitative magnetic resonance imaging, confirm whether function and structure are preserved.

Keeping joints loaded keeps muscle and bone alive. Intervening earlier, and measuring movement rather than assuming it, makes musculoskeletal care a longevity strategy.
